To be frank, this is not an original picture. It is the classic first view of the great Nabataean stone city taken from the narrow slot canyon known as the Siq - the main entrance to this stunning ancient site.  I had always wanted to see Petra since my father told me about it decades ago, but never had a reason to be in Jordan - until now.  Returning from a trip to Sri Lanka, we managed to finagle a brief layover in Amman, with time enough to spend the day here. It deserved much more; this is a vast and breathtaking place. But  hey, 1 day is always better than 0 days...

The picture was straightforward enough, taken just after noon when the canyon is filled with glowing, reflected light. Still, it required a tripod, a long exposure. and a lot of patience; thousands of people pass through this narrow defile every day, and there are almost always human heads blocking the view...
