Humpback Whale Calf and Mother: Silver Bank, Caribbean March 2005
The Silver Bank, north of the Dominican Republic, is the largest breeding area for the North Atlantic population of Humpback Whales. It is also one of the few places on earth where you can swim alongside these extraordinary animals. Here a young calf rises to the surface for a breath of air after a bout of nursing - her mother waits at the bottom for her to return.
