Aurora Borealis, Talkeetna Mountains, January 17/18 2005
There has been an extraordinary amount of solar activity this month. And with clear weather predicted in Alaska, we abandoned plans to go to the California desert and flew north. Despite clear skies, the moon was very bright, which sapped most of the visible color out of the aurora. Happily, the film captured some of the subtle colors I never really saw.
We spent three long sleepless nights under the sky before the clouds returned and we caught the next plane home.
