Vine Maples and Cascade, Siskiyou Mountains, OR May 2005
On a recent assignment for the World Wildlife Fund, I spent a week in the Klamath/Siskiyou Mountains of southern Oregon and northern California. These ancient mountains represent a biological crossroads, and possess some of the greatest botanical diversity in North America.
I was near Grants Pass, photographing spring wildflowers, when I stumbled onto this scene of a vine maple tree spreading its new leaves over tiny Limpey Creek. I was taken by the contrast of patterns between the saw-toothed leaves and the flowing water underneath.
