Marine Otters (Lontra felina)
ENDANGERED
Chiloe Island, CHILE
March 2008
The smallest otter in the New World, and one of the most endangered anywhere, the Marine Otter is only found along the Pacific Coast of Chile and southern Peru. Almost exterminated by the fur trade, they are still under threat from hunting and habitat degradation.
This collection of images, shot on Chiloe Island in Southern Chile, is a small part of the most intimate coverage ever made of this species.
