AUTUMN BERRIES, KEW GARDENS, LONDON
OCTOBER 2004
Sometimes fall color can be found in unexpected places. I recently spent a delightful afternoon at London's magnificent Kew Gardens, photographing autumn color among their fine collection of exotic trees from around the world. Experimenting, I tried intentionally shaking the camera, blurring the subject in a variety of unexpected ways. Most of the images were useless, of course, but a few were transformed into appealing abstractions - among them this cluster of red berries against a green background.
One of the pleasures of digital is the freedom it offers to experiment this way, without worrying about wasting roll after roll of film. Camera : Nikon D100 Shutter Speed: est. 1/15 sec.
