Green Hermit Hummingbird (Phaethornis guy) at Heliconia flower, Arima Valley, Trinidad WILD
This picture took me most of a day. The hummingbird came to this particular flower - just one of many on it's wandering "trap-line" - only once or twice every hour, and sometimes bypassed it altogether. Several times another hummingbird chased it away just before it took a drink : and I had to wait another hour for the next shot.
Meanwhile, although some people like their hummingbird pictures razor-sharp, with every whirring feather stopped in place by the flash, I have always preferred a more natural look: i.e. the hovering blur that we actually see.

Don't forget that I am leading just one photographic trip in 2007, to Madagascar. For more information look here.
