Amazon River Dolphin, or Boto
(Inia geoffrensis)
WILD
August 2007
I recently returned from the Amazon Basin with my friend and whale expert Mark Carwardine, where together we may have taken the first-ever underwater pictures of wild Botos.
The red color is caused by the dark, tannin-rich water: the dolphins themselves vary from gray to pink.
